Acura TL

Acura TL

Body
For 2007, the Acura TL's exterior has been updated to enhance its emotional and athletic impact. With the introduction of the Type-S, visual cues were incorporated to distinguish it from other TLs. All the updates were done while maintaining the high build quality, durability and resale value that Acura buyers expect.
The TL was designed to embody aggressiveness and power, agility and endurance. Designers began with the stance of the vehicle-how it looks and sits on its suspension. They worked towards a look of poise, with a promise of agility and power. The contrast of muscular tension and angular lines flows through the sheet metal, with its long wheelbase, short front and rear overhangs and wide track setting the tone.
The 2004 TL design team were, in part, influenced by "Bauhaus" styling themes. Founded in 1919, Bauhaus was the first and most famous German design house. Bauhaus set a template for European design with the now-famous maxim, "Form follows function." That classic design logic meshes well with already established Acura design philosophies.
With the updates for 2007, the style could more accurately be called "Bauhaus with attitude." Careful attention was paid to give the Type-S its own distinctive and even more aggressive look. Black chrome trim used around the car is an excellent example of the difference between the TL and the Type-S.
The design features and changes include:
Front
  • Aggressive front fascia, a new larger grille opening, larger "A" mark and honeycomb mesh
  • Redesigned bumper with satin chrome crossbar and horizontal trim
  • New headlight clusters with daytime running lights (DRL) on innermost lens
  • New auto-on and auto-off headlights (previously auto-off only)
  • Fog lights repositioned from headlight cluster to lower valance
Side
  • New, split 5-spoke alloy wheels in Blade Silver finish
  • New exterior mirrors with integrated turn signal lights
Rear
  • New rear bumper design
  • Redesigned LED taillight clusters
  • New italicized TL logo
Type-S Exclusive Features
  • Black chrome grille trim (satin chrome on TL)
  • Redesigned bumper with black chrome crossbar and horizontal mesh trim
  • Pronounced "splitter" lip on front valance
  • 10-spoke alloy wheels in Dark Euro Silver
  • Smoked rear side marker lights
  • Wider, more aggressive side sill moldings
  • Exclusive rear bumper with trunk lid spoiler diffuser
  • Redesigned and unique lower valance

Acura TSX

Acura TSX

The Acura TSX is one of the hottest luxury sedans on the road today, setting sales records month after month since its introduction and winning over enthusiasts customers and automotive press with its blend of outstanding performance, nimble handling and sporty styling. The TSX continues to distance itself from the competition by offering class-leading technology and the latest standard safety features, including a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) new for 2007 model year.
"The TSX has already clearly established itself as a beacon of consistency for the Acura brand," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "TSX's unique combination of performance, style and leading edge technology make for a uniquely Acura driving experience, and put it ahead of the competition."
The 2007 TSX is equipped with a 2.4 liter DOHC i-VTEC(TM) 4-cylinder engine, generating 205 horsepower and 164 lb-ft of torque*, giving the TSX engine overall performance comparable to many 6-cylinder powerplants. The i-VTEC "intelligent" valve-control system delivers enhanced performance across a broad power band, superior fuel economy and reduced exhaust emissions. A direct ignition system with knock control helps optimize power and fuel efficiency by ensuring a properly timed spark at all engine speeds.
The TSX engine is equipped with a drive-by-wire throttle control system that eliminates the need for a mechanical connection between the accelerator pedal and the engine, which continuously adjusts the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal to match current driving conditions. It also incorporates throttle control into the car's Vehicle Stability Assist(R) (VSA(R)) system, the vehicle's cruise control function and modulates the throttle to help make automatic transmission shifts even smoother.

The TSX has long been one of Acura's most popular models. As an all-new, clean sheet design for 2009, the automotive media was immediately impressed and Acura TSX sales were strong. Thanks to a great mix of styling, sporty performance, luxury appointments, good fuel efficiency and outstanding value, the TSX has remained the volume leader within its segment according to Global Insight. Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept

Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept

The show-stopping Acura "Advanced Sports Car Concept" made its world debut today at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. The dynamically styled concept provides a preview of the design direction for the successor to the Acura NSX.
Created to take exotic sports car styling to a new level, the concept is designed to incorporate a powerful front-mounted, V-10 engine and a new high-performance, rear-wheel-drive based version of Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)).
"The Acura brand will always be a home for people who love to drive," said Takeo Fukui, president & CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. "As we advance toward building a car like this, I can tell you it will feature advanced technology matching our passion for performance."
The concept's exterior demonstrates a dynamic fusion of advanced technology and emotion. The long, pronounced hood features deeply sculpted lines and embossed air vents, both of which hint at the powerful engine beneath. The exterior lines run the length of the body, creating a ribbon-like effect from the front headlights to the rear wheel arches, evoking a feeling of movement and power.
Although modern in its appearance, the Advanced Sports Car Concept retains the subtle cues associated with its predecessor, the NSX. The concept's slim, LED headlights are pushed wide and designed to mimic the pop-up headlights found on the first generation NSX. Other styling hints include a modern take on wraparound rear taillights and the all black cockpit.
"Our intention was to design an exotic sports car that gracefully combines advanced technology and strong emotion," said Jon Ikeda, principal designer, Acura Design Center. "The technical, machined surfaces and keen-edge design are balanced with sweeping curves and dramatic lines, all of which results in the ultimate exotic sports car."
Wide and low to the ground with a 108.8 inch wheelbase, the concept is anchored by grippy 19 inch front and 20 inch rear performance tires which are mounted to custom billet-machined, polished aluminum wheels. Powerful, ventilated carbon ceramic brake discs and eight-piston calipers accent the wheels. Bold wheel arches and flares add to the concept's aggressive appearance.
The low slung cabin is constructed entirely of tinted glass and sits flush against the body. Door handles are also flush mounted, allowing the sports car to retain a clean and aerodynamic appearance. The Advanced Sports Car Concept features a carbon fiber underbody and the rear is finished with aggressive quad exhaust pipes and integrated rear diffusers, further communicating its high performance potential.
The Advanced Sports Car Concept was designed by the Acura's Los Angeles-based design team that will be based at the new Acura Design Center, opening this summer.

Acura TSX

Acura TSX

Torrance, Calif. 09/01/2004
The TSX sports sedan complements the sporty TL and the luxurious RL. The TSX is positioned as a stepping stone to these established nameplates, providing luxury sedan buyers with an entry point to the Acura brand.
The front-wheel drive TSX was engineered and appointed to compete with Europe's best sedans in the sporty near-luxury segment (the European D segment). This segment includes cars like the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 Series.
In keeping with its European competitors, the TSX driving character is sharply focused on the sporty end of the scale. Its double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension has sophisticated geometry that helps the TSX corner flat and resist acceleration lift and braking dive. In addition, the TSX has P215/50R17 Michelin MXM4 V-rated tires, 4-wheel disc brakes, and an impressive arsenal of electronic driver aids including Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). A highly refined power rack-and-pinion steering system provides outstanding road feel that rivals the best Europe can offer. The takeaway for the driver is an ultra-competent entry luxury sports sedan that's immensely fun to drive.
The precise handling of the TSX perfectly complements its 200-hp 2.4-liter i-VTEC(TM) 4-cylinder engine. It is available with either a 6-speed manual transmission (with a lightweight magnesium case) or a 5-speed SportShift(TM) automatic that offers quick and precise gear changes. Thanks to its i-VTEC(R) intelligent variable valve timing and lift, the engine provides a broad, useable powerband that's uncommon in a 4-cylinder engine, together with a stirring high-rpm power rush. The TSX engine, with its 7100-rpm redline is backed by 40 years of Honda international racing experience in Formula One, CART and Grand Prix motorcycles.

Acura Advanced Sedan Concept

Acura Advanced Sedan Concept

"The Advanced Sedan Concept illustrates Acura's commitment to modern design and cutting-edge style," said John Mendel, senior vice president, auto operations."With our advanced design team taking a significant role in shaping future vehicle design, we can expect upcoming products to reflect this progressive, forward-thinking styling."
The Advanced Sedan Concept is the purest expression of advanced design, performance and luxury, highlighted by its powerful, wide stance and deeply sculpted surfaces. The primary goal of this design study was to create a sophisticated, refined sedan with a mysterious presence.
The concept's generous exterior proportions suggest that a large, powerful engine lurks beneath the surface. The exterior lines reveal a sheer, sculpted lower body contrasted with a taut, architectural cabin. Although ultra-modern in its design, the concept retains the classic silhouette associated with a flagship sedan.
Low to the ground, the concept is anchored by large 22 inch front and 23 inch rear tires which are mounted to custom billet-machined, polished aluminum wheels. Powerful brake discs and calipers accent the wheels and large ducts direct cooling air to the components. Bold wheel arches and flares add to the concept's muscular appearance.
The sleek, compact cockpit nestles atop the sculpted body and flows from hood to trunk. For a unique panoramic view, the roof is constructed entirely of tinted glass that shades the occupants while still connecting them to the outside world.

Acura MD-X Concept

Acura MD-X Concept

The Acura "MD-X Concept" luxury performance SUV made its world debut today at the 2006 New York International Auto Show featuring bold, sleek exterior styling indicative of the next generation MDX production model.
"Every aspect of the MD-X Concept design conveys performance while still retaining SUV functionality," said John Mendel, senior vice president, auto operations. "The styling signifies a bold direction for the next generation MDX, both in appearance and substance."
The MD-X Concept is fashioned as a true driver's SUV, with its low, wide stance and aggressive design. Its sleek surface lines are modeled after a high-powered megayacht.
The MD-X Concept features a wider track and longer wheelbase that give the vehicle a sportier, performance look. The profile of the concept reveals a refined SUV with smooth, chiseled lines and an elegant form. A dominant character line runs from the front quarter panel to the rear, evoking the feeling of forward movement. The sharply raked D-pillar creates a stealth, aerodynamic appearance while still retaining the third row seating functionality and cargo carrying capability of the current generation MDX.
The Concept sits low to the ground despite the large 20-inch five-spoke custom alloy wheels, while the large wheel arches and flares add to the Concept's muscular appearance. The sleek cabin features flush mounted windshield glass, which improves aerodynamics while adding to the MD-X Concept's smooth and flowing design.
"The smooth lines and sleek shape of the MD-X Concept challenge the conventions of SUV design," said Ricky Hsu, chief designer for the MD-X Concept. "Our goal was to create the image of a sports sedan while maintaining generous interior volume and utility of a SUV."
The front hood is accented with pronounced character lines culminating in an aggressive five-sided grille, which gives the MD-X its bold presence. The commanding front grille features a dominant center bar running through a solid aluminum face. The narrow, Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights appear to grow out of the massive grille, giving the overall front-end a strong, distinct look.
"The front end of the MD-X Concept communicates power and prestige," explains Hsu. "We want drivers to do a double-take when the vehicle passes them on the road."
In the rear, the MD-X Concept has an integrated rear hatch, which sits flush against the bumper to create a smooth, clean appearance. LED taillights wrap around the cargo hatch adding to the vehicles wide and low appearance. A rear spoiler improves aerodynamics and the integrated dual exhaust pipes add to the SUV's sporty style.

Acura RDX Prototype

Acura RDX Prototype

The highly anticipated Acura RDX Prototype SUV debuted today at the North American International Auto Show. Combining sport utility with sports sedan handling and performance, RDX features an innovative 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)), and is designed to redefine the entry premium SUV segment. This near-production prototype provides an advance preview of the all-new RDX that will go on sale this summer.
"The RDX Prototype represents the forward thinking that will be seen in the next generation of Acura light trucks," said John Mendel, senior vice president, Auto Operations. "It is loaded with leading edge technology and it exemplifies what we call intelligent performance: a sporty, luxurious and functional SUV that has outstanding performance yet is also fuel efficient."
RDX features an all-new 2.3-liter i-VTEC(R) four-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates 240 horsepower and 260 lbs-ft of torque. This is the first application of forced induction technology in Acura history. The revolutionary i-VTEC Turbo technology uses a variable flow turbocharger, which is exclusive to the RDX, and provides dramatic performance benefits while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency. To complement the all-aluminum high-performance engine, the RDX utilizes Acura's steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to manually operate the 5-speed sequential SportShift(TM) automatic transmission.
Acura's Super Handling-AWD system is tuned specifically for the new RDX platform. SH-AWD's sophisticated electronic controls automatically distribute torque fore and aft, as well as splitting the rear torque left to right. The result is dramatically enhanced handling, traction and stability during sporty driving as well as in inclement weather. A sophisticated chassis with fully independent front and rear suspension complement the SH-AWD. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA(R)) combines with large disc brakes and ABS to enhance control.

Acura TL

Acura TL

  • Large diameter quad exhaust finishers
  • Black chrome taillight trim

Acura TSX

"The ILX project cars displayed at SEMA exemplifies how potent the platform is for enthusiasts, adding to the momentum the new model is gaining."
The Acura ILX "Street Build" by Evasive Motorsports is designed to appeal to the sophisticated tuner by using selective parts that enhance the driving experience without sacrificing drivability. Starting with a 2013 ILX 6-Speed Manual with Premium Package, a supercharger kit from CT Engineering and an ECU tune with Hondata's FlashPro bumps the output of the 2.4-liter Inline-4 to 250 wheel horsepower. The prototype SP Elite exhaust from Greddy adds a throaty exhaust note. For the exterior, the Acura Genuine Accessories aero kit is matched to a set of 19-inch Volk G25 wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires. Tein Street Advance coilovers give the ILX an aggressive stance while offering damping force adjustability.
